Samantha D’Eramo has run a negative campaign for Hudson City Council, but she took it too far on Tuesday. D’Eramo strangely attacked Councilwoman Karen Heater for experiencing a house fire as a child. When D’Eramo received push back in the comments, she deleted the post and tried again. But, plenty of people screenshot the original thread.
Just days ago, D’Eramo stated that she is running to bring back civility. This was on the heels of her calling current council a “dictatorship.” D’Eramo’s attempt at civility didn’t last long.

D’Eramo tossed civility out the window following the League of Women Voters debate. Heater mentioned that her father died and their house burned down in the same year when Heater was a child. This is why she sought a position on the Fire Subcommittee and worked to expand fire services in a fiscally responsibly manner. This is something that Heater has mentioned previously. It is searchable on her Facebook page and even part of her announcement for re-election this year. But, D’Eramo appeared to be hearing this for the first time at the debate and she didn’t like it.
D’Eramo and her family experienced an unfortunate house fire last year. She mentions it frequently. Apparently, she didn’t realize that Karen Heater also had a similar loss. Rather than expressing civility or a camaraderie of experiencing such a horrific event, D’Eramo created a Facebook post attacking Heater. She even felt the need to tag Councilwoman Heater in the post.

State Senator Casey Weinstein, whose wife Amanda is a running mate of D’Eramo, liked the divisive post.

Things soured for Samantha D’Eramo as she received pushback in the comments.

There were accusations that D’Eramo deleted negative comments then D’Eramo deleted the entire post. Several Hudson residents sent the screenshots above and others to Clocktower Files for preservation.
In addition to continuing to divide the community, D’Eramo also established that she doesn’t understand the importance of the First Amendment. In deleting the entire thread, D’Eramo silenced those who had commented and reacted. If D’Eramo was an elected official, this could have resulted in a federal lawsuit.
A few minutes after she deleted her comment, D’Eramo posted a sanitized version of it. She did acknowledge that she deleted the original one. She could have edited her original post to preserve the comments but she chose otherwise.

Karen Heater was gracious in her response following this rather personal from Samantha D’Eramo.
