Hudson Councilman Mike Bird ran a negative campaign in 2023. After winning, he thought he could hide the evidence by deleting all his campaign Facebook posts. Thanks to a tip, we have one of Bird’s posts that completely contradicts his statement’s regarding the current council race.
Bird’s opponent in 2023 was Scott Ruffer. His wife was an elections official with the state of Ohio. Since the Secretary of State is a Republican elected official, Bird felt being married to an employee of the state of Ohio who worked for an partisan elected official should disqualify his opponent. Now Bird has donated hundreds of dollars to Amanda Weinstein’s campaign, despite the fact that she is married to a State Senator who is a very partisan Democrat. But, wait there is even more!
“I think it is problematic to have a Council member – in a non-partisan position – be closely affiliated with a political party or have a close family member who is working for a political candidate. Looking ahead to 2024, with the Presidential and U.S. Congress/Senate elections – it is going to be even more important that Hudson City Council be non-partisan and a unifier, not a divider,” 2023 Bird wrote.

This is not the only time Bird stated this. There are recordings of Bird saying at public events that Ruffer wife’s job working for the State of Ohio should disqualify him since her boss was a partisan elected official. But, 2025 Bird donated the maximum amount for his entire family to Amanda Weinstein whose husband actually is a partisan elected official, as the screenshot of the campaign finance report below shows.

Bird donated to Weinstein through Act Blue, the Democrats fundraising website. So, not only is Bird fine with Weinstein being married to partisan elected official, but he was fine with donating through the Democratic Party. Bird is fine with partisanship – as long as it is from Democrats.
While that is a stunning display of hypocrisy, that’s not the sole example for Bird. He recently came out against mailers from a PAC highlighting Amanda Weinstein’s support of high density housing and higher energy bills.

Now this hypocrisy is two fold. Bird and his Campaign Treasurer were both on the operating emails of Clocktower Collaborative which was ruled by the State of Ohio to be an illegal PAC that operated during the 2023 election to get him elected. Also, Bird was the beneficiary of negative emails from the Summit Democratic Party that hit Scott Ruffer on the fact that his wife worked for Frank LaRose. The mailer also lied by stating Ruffer did not attend debates when he did.

It’s important to note that Bird’s attorney was Tom Bevan who was the Chair of the Summit Democratic Party. In addition to sending this attack ad to benefit Bird, Bevan also was on the organizing emails for Clocktower Collaborative and also donated generously to the illegal PAC.
Bird has established himself well as the stereotypical politician. Not only is he a hypocrite who lied and said anything to get elected, but he when the State of Ohio demanded the donors of illegal PAC Clocktower Collaborative to be made public, in the video below Bird said the donor names should not have been public record because many of them “played major roles in this community.” In other words, the Ward 4 Councilman believes his friends and supporters should not have to obey the law, especially when their illegal behavior bolsters him.
