Elected officials are supposed to work for their constituents. But, at last week’s hearing for Canterbury Meadows, Amanda Weinstein treated the attorney for Canterbury Meadows developers as her own attorney.
Common sense dictates that would don’t seek legal advice from the attorney representing your legal opponent. But, Weinstein is clearly on the same side as the Canterbury Meadows developers. The developer lost at BZBA, Planning Commission, the previous Council, and even in court. But, Weinstein and her fellow Democrats on Council are looking to rubber stamp the development in spite of the City winning against them at every turn.
Weinstein accepted a campaign contribution from George Vizmeg. He also campaigned for her and her slate of candidates with literature without a campaign disclaimer. Now, she’s actively working to get this long denied development done over the objections of residents.
“So I’m wondering if in asking for this or working through the settlement, did you review our processes and the authority of Council to actually make the settlement?” Amanda Weinstein asked opposing counsel.
“Yes,” he replied.
“And what did you determine?” Weinstein responded in what appeared to be a rehearsed Q&A.
“That you. had the authority,” he answered as the gallery erupted in laughter from residents.

According to the Hudson Hub, Amanda Weinstein wrote on social media, “This settlement resolves years of litigation over the Canterbury Meadows property on Ravenna [Street], protecting the City and its taxpayers from significant financial risk and the cost of continued legal fees.”
What Weinstein appears to not be concerned with her own constituents. Many have stated they will sue the City of Hudson if they approve this is approved. The City already won against the developer. There is no reason to settle. She has the option of choosing to be sued by the developer or her constituents. Currently, Weinstein is dismissing her constituents in favor of her campaign donor. The Weinsteins have plenty of experience suing the government, including the Air Force Academy where they went to school. Now, she is rolling out the red carpet for her constituents to do the same thing. Except this time, she may be sued personally as well.
