The vote for President of Hudson City Council left some telling clues about the newly elected officials. The trio of Nicole Kowalski, Patricia Goetz*, and Mike Bird* orchestrated their moves before the meeting, but their efforts didn’t pay off.

Evidence would show Nicole Kowalski has had a rough week. Her lawsuit against the City of Hudson for being censured for targeting a private citizen has cost the taxpayers considerable amounts of dollars for what amounts to pulling a red flag in kindergarten for bad behavior. Her case is resting on a pseudo similar case out of Lakemore. That Council member had his censure revoked by a Common Pleas Judge. Kowalski was using that case as precedent for her. But, this week, the Court of Appeals overturned the Common Pleas Judge’s ruling and that censure has been upheld. This means Kowalski’s case has crumbled and she will likely soon be left with her censure while the residents will be stuck with the legal costs fighting off her vanity lawsuit.

Despite all Kowalski has cost the City of Hudson in money and political divisiveness, she nominated herself for President of Council. Patricia Goetz* seconded Kowalski. Meanwhile, Mike Bird* nominated Skylar Sutton who declined the nomination. It was apparent while watching the meeting that this was all orchestrated to throw off claims of the trio being a team.

Goetz* and Kowalski voted for Kowalski. The incumbent Council members voted for Chris Foster to continue as President of Council. Bird* refused to make a decision and abstained.

While it’s telling that Goetz* voted for someone suing the City, Bird* completely refused to make a decision on his very first vote on Council. His prior actions signal that he wanted to vote for Nicole Kowalski, but he refused to go on the record.

Team Kowalski has been in spin mode this past week attempting to distance themselves for their poor decision to have a Democrat only swearing-in rally complete with a Democratic Judge.

The meeting is ongoing.
