Unfortunately, elected officials often have the reputation of spinning the truth or lying. In his first week in office, Dr. Mike Bird appears to have already embraced that reputation.
Dr. Bird and Dr. Goetz were sworn in last week by Judge Teodosio. It’s been a public relations nightmare for Hudson ever since. The duo campaigned on unity with Nicole “Clocktower” Kowalski then had a separate swearing-in with Democrat Judge Teodosio. Bird and Goetz campaigned claiming to be non-partisan, but at least 1 of them requested a Democrat judge in a separate ceremony from the incumbents. Judge Lisa Coates had already been scheduled to swear-in the newly elected Council members but, “non-partisan” Bird and Goetz wanted a Democrat only swearing-in.
A resident emailed Dr. Bird asking him about the Democrat only swearing-in. To his credit, Bird actually did reply, but his answer either put himself and/or Kowalski in hot water and public record video proves it.
Bird emailed that it would have been better to have a joint swearing-in. The new Ward Four Councilman claimed it was not possible because there was an issue with quorum and that a staff member told him so. But, there wasn’t an issue with having a quorum for the swearing-in. It was a public event without an agenda. The meeting for December 5th was moved to December 12 earlier, so December 5th was simply a swearing-in without concerns about a quorum as Council President Chris Foster explained in a Facebook post.
This resident responded to Bird and cc’d Clocktower Files. The resident mentioned that Tallmadge had its swearing-in as a separate event from a Council meeting. This is not unusual, but Team Kowalski is having some public relations issues right off the bat, so they are looking for someone to blame. Creating a quorum was not the reason for the separate swearing-in as Clocktower Kowalski mentioned at the November 28th Council Workshop.
Bird refused to answer the question about which staff member told him this incorrect information. Maybe that’s because just two weeks ago Nicole “Clocktower” Kowalski revealed the real reason for separate ceremony. Bird replied to the resident, but removed Clocktower Files from the response.
Kowalski is so giddy about her new allies on Council, that she mentioned the plans to have a separate swearing-in for the Democrats with a different judge during the November 28th Council Workshop that is available to watch on the City of Hudson website. Listen to Clocktower Kowalski discuss this plan in the clipped video below.
“One last note is, um, at least one of the incoming Council members preferred if Judge Teodosio swore them in. So, Judge Teodosio will be there as well.”
