In his first Council meeting/workshop, Dr. Mike Bird* made quite a splash into his political career when he laid out plans for his first initiative. He wants the City to put in sidewalks in his HOA, Hudson Park Estates, so he can more easily walk to his pool and tennis courts.
While most Hudson residents don’t have access to a neighborhood pool, Bird wants them to fund the yellow brick road to his HOA pool with their taxes.
“Number three, the in the priorities like connects to a park. Can we consider like adding also like a neighborhood pool or something like that when you think about like high traffic areas people walking to you know some of our areas have a pool, tennis court and kids are walking on the street to get to those places, similar to a park?… Hudson Park Estates has a swim and tennis place and no sidewalks on the way to that.”

The sidewalk connectivity plan is intended for well traveled roads, not subsidizing Bird’s HOA pool. The cost of sidewalks throughout Hudson Park Estates would be an astronomical bill to hand Hudson’s hardworking taxpayers, but that’s what he is proposing. If an HOA is to have sidewalks throughout, the developer and homeowners should pay for that, not Hudson taxpayers who don’t have access to the amenities.

Bird has had a splash in his month on Council. After campaigning as non-partisan, he and Patricia Goetz had a separate swearing-in from the incumbents and insisted on having a Democratic Judge officiated while all their fellow Clocktower Collaborators cheered them on. Bird and Goetz are also facing a probable cause hearing at the Ohio Elections Commission for coordinating with Jane Howington’s dark money organization Clocktower Collaborative. That organization is facing a hearing of its own for operating as an illegal PAC.
